Artists in SchoolsArtists in Schools provides for residencies in schools by professional artists with a high level of expertise and credibility in their art form. It is designed to develop in students an appreciation of and involvement in the arts, by promoting close interaction between students and professional arts practitioners. It is also aimed at raising the awareness of students and members of the school community about the artistic process as well as profiling the arts as a legitimate career choice. The Department of Education and Children's Services and the South Australian Youth Arts Board fund the program, which is managed by Carclew Youth Arts. We are excited to announce funding support from DECS has been confirmed until June 2010. Schools can apply to have a professional artist work in the school for up to 10 days. In regional areas the artist will receive a living away and a contribution to travel costs. Regional schools are required to provide comfortable accommodation other than billeting. Note: Applications have now closed for projects in 2009. Please contact Leigh Mangin on 8333 3400 regarding project applications for 2010.
Schools are encouraged to document the project throughout. Photographs (digital or other), diaries, diagrams, sketches, video and/or surveys provide effective documentation. It is the joint responsibility of the school coordinator and the artist to build this into the project, helping to map the process as well as represent the outcome. Documentation should contain the perceptions and viewpoints of the artist and others involved. The report must use the proformas that have been provided. The completed report by the school coordinator enables the committee to acquit its grant from the funding bodies and prepare its Annual Report. Note: Posting the reports of past projects on this website is designed to assist those schools planning to apply for the program. The inclusion of images, text and other multimedia elements will greatly enrich this form of documentation. Click here to read details on completed Artists in Schools projects. | |||
