ARTS BLAST 2008
Carclew's Arts and Education Program has offered a range of arts workshops and teacher PD as part of ARTS BLAST for a number of years. In May 2008 ARTS BLAST was offered to schools through both Carclew's Arts & Education and Workshop Programs as part of the 16th ASSITEJ World Congress & Performing Arts Festival for Young People.
A unique opportunity for students to engage with professional artists ARTS BLAST workshops included activity in both visual and performing arts. ARTS BLAST provided students with opportunities to have active engagement with the 16th ASSITEJ World Congress and Performing Arts Festival, through a program of arts workshops, incorporating a broad range of culturally diverse and inclusive arts activities. Encompassing the Festival theme, ‘Old Knowledge, New Word’, Carclew Youth Arts facilitated the workshop program with a central hub located at the Adelaide Festival Centre.

ARTS BLAST
Visual Arts Workshops for Schools – Carclew Youth Arts
The main aim of ARTS BLAST is to provide accessible arts workshops that are fun and support student learning. During Come Out 2009 Carclew Youth Arts will offer schools the opportunity for students to experience a day of visual arts workshops inspired by The Campaign for Drawing’s Big Draw program in the UK. Big Draw is inspired by Victorian artist and writer, John Ruskin whose “mission was not to teach people how to draw, but how to see.” (The Campaign for Drawing, UK)
ARTS BLAST caters for up to 30 students, each day, to create art alongside two well-known professional South Australian artists – John Whitney and James Parker. Students will collaborate to create a large canvas inspired by the Come Out theme – Colliding Worlds. The completed work, incorporating experimental drawing techniques such as drawing with scissors, sensory drawing, printing, collage, sketching – and much more – will be exhibited in a public space in the second week of the Festival.
